They always let me hold their babies. I had to be sitting when I was younger, though, because they were afraid I'd drop the baby. That went for all the younger kids, so it wasn't just me.

Yep, I was always allowed to hold babies, but had to sit down when I was younger too. I think I was in my very early teens before i was allowed to carry a baby around. Then in my late teens, I spent a lot of time taking care of my infant niece on my own, so my family learned that I was capable of it. They relaxed after that.

I wasn't trusted with babies in my teens either. I remember my youngest first cousin Tegen, who was born when I was 13 back in 1997. I had to sit with her. No-one would trust me to lift her out if she cried or carry her around with me. However, my aunt's expecting her fourth child in April this year, so hopefully, they'll let me look after this baby a bit more than they did the other three children.

I was always allowed to hold babies. There so cute !!!!! Babysitting is okay, i've done that before. It get's a little tiring sometimes, but the job gets easier when the child gets attached to you. It requires some time though.

I held my friend's one-year-old daughter while standing. god, she was heavy. lol but I usually sit down when holding infants, as I'm afraid I'll drop them, or won't have their head positioned in the crook of my arm just right, so then they fuss.

I can't walk with a baby. I am so nurvous about dropping them that when I stand up to move, I freeze. and ask mom to take it and carry it for me. but yeah I am aloud to hold babies.

I've noticed that many sighted people have serious issues with me, as a blind person holding their child, even when they let younger, less experienced and less responsible sighted children and teens carry their infants around. Even my mother who raised me quite well on her own as a blind parent often encounters this problem when volunteering in the nursery at church. Some parents warm up to the idea once they see that i know what I'm doing and others don't care and remain paranoid no matter how I demonstrate my compitance. If your family is reluctant to let you help because of your age, just give it time and if they are reluctant because of your blindness try taking the redcross baby sitting course or showing them books you have read or how you can hold, carry diaper, etc a baby by demonstrating with a fairly realistic size and weight baby doll.
